It made me laugh, not because there was anything funny about Elio and Oliver getting married, but because marriage seemed like the sort of thing that was so far off. I loved Eddie and now I knew he loved me, too, but I didn't think either of us would try to think about getting married.

Teenagers broke up all the time. I had seen it at school. I didn't want it to happen to us and I certainly wasn't planning on it and I wanted to be with Eddie for as long as he would want me. But I also knew we were young. I hoped he would love me forever, but I couldn't guarantee it.
